The t7 is great, but when they saw t9 on the box, they knew what they were getting. I have two t7s that are used almost daily, for years. I anticipate the t9s will last just as long.

I have updated the firmware & bought a new cable but it is the slowest thing ever! There is 1.5 terabytes on the drive & I'm always transferring from my Galaxy S24 phone. Highly disappointed. I have used a T5 & T7 for years & never have I had them slow to 2mb transfer speeds like this T9 drive. The rubbery textured case catches every piece of lint & doesn't clean easily. I purchased it for the 4TB capacity. It was fabulous out of the box, but something is definitely different with it now.

I used it for short term on/off-loading of camera footage when first purchased and now I mainly use it for editing software catalogues and photo storage. Based on my experiences with other SSDs, the transfer speeds are about the same as a T7, though I haven't done any official testing. I transferred a little over 1TB worth of content to another comparable SSD and it took around 26 minutes. During that time, the T9 got pretty dang hot, so make sure you have a relatively cool surface to set it on. Overall, you get what you pay for when buying a Samsung SSD but I feel the T9 doesn't really have any beneficial qualities to warrant it's higher price over a T7. To each their own I guess...

Went though the time and process of sending it into Samsung, who certified to me that the drive was working as it should. Test the return drive got the same speeds. The sandisk extreme SSD which is rated for 1000 Mb/s got about the same speeds. Hmmm. Very disappointed to say the least.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Can't go wrong with any Samsung Portable SSD! Starting off, I wanna say I have 2 other Samsung portable SSD. Ones a 2TB T7 Touch and the other a 500GB T7. Those work great. Use one for emulators on my Xbox and the other is for my business cleaning videos. These two have been good for a couple years. I needed a bigger SSD for my Google photos. See... Google charges $$ per month to have the Google cloud. Mine is already full. Mainly cause my videos I make for work (post them to YouTube) and the memory gets ate up by that. So my idea was to buy an SSD and download all my Google photos content and put it on my 4TB SSD. As usual, it worked flawless. I can easily connect it to my phone and get what I need or add more stuff. Can't complain and always works. Definitely recommend

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice drive appears very durable and quick I purchased the 4TB version from Samsung several weeks ago. Shipping was prompt. Unit was plug and play. I loaded the included software. I tried to use it to create a system image on my win 11 PC but found that I had to reformat the drive to NTFS. I copied the files on the drive to another folder on a NAS drive to prevent them from being overwritten. After reformatting I had to sign into the app to gain access to the drive. If Samsung could do anything better they would include the instructions. Transfer speed appears adequate however I don't have a method to verify the speed. I am using the USB C port on my PC, however I don't know if it is compatible with the fastest connection speed of the drive. The drive is a very comfortable/manageable size. The housing appears to be very rugged. Even when formatting the drive it didn't feel excessively warm.

I did - got sales support, they could not handle tech support. They sent me to the refrigerator tech support who transferred me to another area that was not related to computers. When I plugged the device in it wanted to back everything up to dropbox and had no instructions how to set password or format the device. The chat people said that customer service was only available M-F ---- I went to search online for a manual and it does not exist.

I sent these back, I have not had a chance to test the 4TB or free 256 GB SSD storage units. I sure hope the SSD storage drives work properly and fast.

However, when I attach it to the macbook air, it didn't even recognized the drive. You should have a software that automatically check for a updated version before accessing the drive. I finally found an updated software and able to use the drive as intended. This is a solid drive with reasonably priced. Good job, Samsung.

Its sleek design and compact size belie its incredible speed and massive storage capacity. Especially with all the family activities, it's been a wonder being able to transfer all the old photos into the portable ssd. Also, it's extremely fast when transferring the large bulk of files. It manages to process things within a blink of an eye. I would definitely buy it again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Absurd choice of pratol limits speeds This drive is fine, if you use the included Samsung cable. After using Magician to update the firmware, this issue began to happen: Any other non-samsung USB-C cable, even top dollar ones, will limit the transfer speed to 40mbps bidirectionally, regardless of the device its plugged into. Whats the point of USB-C if it does not have some sort of universality? Its like the drive controller throws a little tantrum if its cant get its uncommon USB3.2 2x2 and just falls back to USB2 speeds... even though it could use USB 3.1 or something. Further, i tried to revert the firmware but Samsung does not allow this. What all of this tells me is that Samsung is more concerned with chasing specs than things that matter to consumers, such as the ability to reliably and quickly backup and restore data with ANY quality USB-C cable. My first and last Samsung external drive, returning to Best Buy today. I'll give my money to manufacturers who dont play spec-chasing games at the expense of people's important data.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple. Just got it. Overall good. The temperatures are ok but not sure how would it be with when at full speed. Unfortunately, most USB drives don't have the 2x2 variant. Instead of using Thunderbolt 3 or 4 that is pretty popular, they went with a slower option that is not very available. Good thing is, they seem pretty reliable though.

You got the mostest badassest Hard Drive on the market half the size of a pop tart and about as thin and same as problem years ago I had with Western Digital you guys don't take serious enough to fix. You should be able to plug your hard drive into you Mac or PC and not have it freak on you working on one platform and not at all on the other. If you cannot at least get your software or strike whatever deal you guys need to do especially after all these years. That much should be across the board already as a given. So for &*^##!! sake we got ai here and you guys are still arguing who bigger with the right light. Are ya feeling me there at all..?

Up until I purchased this SSD (my first), I was using portable HDDs mainly due to the difference in price - not much difference now. I didn't know what I was missing - the physical size, storage size, and speed to name a few. I now own two of the T9s and am transferring data from my HDDs to my SSD's. Will be buying another one soon as the T9 specs (USB 3.2) alone set me up for future - my HDDs are 3.0 and are falling behind.
